We're currently experiencing a service disruption affecting websites, email, and other services hosted on the Samrand Datacentre. The Datacentre network team has provided an update (as below).

Xneelo's Samrand datacentre is reporting a network outage, and both their network team and upstream provider are actively investigating. During this time you may experience slow or no access to affected services. No ETA has been provided as yet.

We'll follow up as soon as we have more information from the datacentre or once services are restored. No action is required from your side.

The Samrand datacentre networking team has provided the following information:

We're currently experiencing a large-scale DDoS attack affecting parts of our network infrastructure. We understand the disruption this causes and are treating this as a priority incident.

Some customers may experience intermittent connectivity issues, increased latency, or timeouts while mitigation work continues.

Our technical teams are actively working with our DDoS mitigation and upstream network partners to manage the impact. We will continue to share updates as the situation develops.

UPDATE: Due to some procurement delays, the below maintenance will be rescheduled to the weekend of 17-19 October 2025.                  

As the final phase of our major infrastructure upgrade, we will be performing planned maintenance to our core network. This work will enhance the reliability and performance of the internet connectivity to your services.

This maintenance will take place on Saturday, 18 October 2025, within a six-hour window from 12:00 to 18:00 SAST.

What are we doing? Our engineers will be replacing the primary hardware that connects our datacentre to the internet. This involves installing a new, fully redundant network path and more advanced firewalls. The result will be a faster, more resilient, and more secure connection for all client services.

How will this affect you? To complete this hardware replacement, we must temporarily disconnect from the internet.

• There will be a period of total network outage for all services.

• We anticipate this complete loss of connectivity will last for approximately 1-2 hours.

Our team has pre-configured the new equipment to ensure this downtime is as short as humanly possible. While the maintenance window is six hours, this allows our engineers ample time to perform the work carefully and manage any unforeseen issues without extending the outage.

UPDATE: Due to some procurement delays, we are rescheduling the below maintenance to the weekend of 10-12 October 2025.

To enhance the performance, reliability, and security of your services, we are conducting a significant upgrade to our core cloud infrastructure.

This planned maintenance will take place on Friday, 10 October 2025, beginning at 18:00 and continue until all tasks are completed.

What are we doing? Our engineers will be adding new, more powerful hardware and applying the latest long-term support software release to the entire platform. This is a crucial step in ensuring the stability and security of your services for the future.

How will this affect you? To complete the upgrade, we will need to reboot all servers at least twice during the maintenance window. While your services are rebooting, they will be temporarily unavailable. You may also notice some degraded performance at times as we manage the migration process.

Our team's top priority is to complete these reboots efficiently and minimize the impact on your operations. We thank you for your understanding as we carry out this important work.

UPDATE: Due to some procurement delays, The original maintenance window of the 23rd of August has been postponed until the weekend of the 10th of October 2025.

We will be installing updates to our hypervisors during this maintenancce period. During this clients may experience some network disruptions during the day but we don't foresee any extended downtime

During this follow-up maintenance window, our team will be working on the core networking equipment. While no services will be shutdown, clients may experience intermittent connection issues to our hosting services. Although we are scheduling maintenance from Saturday 06:00 through to 18:00, clients will only experience short network connection issues while we perform the upkeep. Our team will work to ensure downtime / loss of connection is at a minimum.

We will be performing network upgrades at our data centre starting on Friday at 16:00, with work potentially extending through the weekend. During this maintenance window, we will upgrade our core fibre network to a redundant configuration and install additional hardware to enhance our current redundancy plan. Our Level 2 and Network teams will be on-site to minimize any potential downtime.

During the maintenance, clients may experience degraded performance and some connectivity issues, but our upgrade plan aims to keep this to a minimum.

Although the maintenance is scheduled from Friday to Saturday, this timeframe ensures we can address any unexpected issues. We anticipate completing the upgrades on Friday, allowing us to resolve any potential configuration issues on Saturday.

While preparing for our network maintenance this weekend, we have received a notification from our hypervisor platform, XCP, indicating a potential need to reboot one of our core hypervisors to upgrade its 10GB network platform. Unfortunately, confirmation of this requirement will only be possible during the actual execution of the upgrades. If necessary, we will need to shut down virtual machines utilizing internal SSDs for storage, reboot the host, and subsequently restart the virtual machines.

Typically, a reboot cycle takes approximately 1 hour, during which both websites and emails will be temporarily non-operational. Clients using SpamExperts will have their emails captured and delivered to our mailbox once the server is back online. Clients utilizing third-party mail services, such as Microsoft 365, will be unaffected in terms of emails; however, websites may experience downtime or sluggishness during the reboot process.
